You aren’t stuck, you’re being saved

Episode No. 29

Where to listen:

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read the quote “You aren’t restricted, you are being reserved”? I wanted to share this because it is something that struck me to my core and I just had to talk about it. Time has always been an anxiety-inducing subject for me.

It was so bad to the point when anyone asked me what am I up to or what am I doing with my life - First I would freeze and then the defenses would come up. I hated that question whether it was from a personal or professional perspective because it felt like an attack even if it wasn’t. It could’ve been curiosity or from a place of genuine concern, but my brain jumped to judgment - because I was judging myself.

When your life doesn’t look like how you thought it would look or it feels like it’s not progressing, there are these emotions of frustration, impatience, and disappointment. I had awareness of what I felt during these seasons of waiting but I wanted to understand the why.

For me, It’s kinda like that feeling when you were a kid and you would draw and an adult comes over your shoulder asking about what the picture is supposed to be. I would be annoyed someone would be looking over my shoulder, questioning my process when to me it was clear. Suddenly I would question my abilities to draw that thing just like how I question if I am really meant for everything I want. “Should I do something else”.

Should is a dangerous thought because it is loaded with judgment. It's a word that often comes from external expectations and societal pressures rather than our own authentic desires. When we say "I should do this" or "I should be there by now," we're usually comparing ourselves to an idealized timeline or path that may not actually be right for us.

So this is the mindset shift I wanted to share: You aren’t stuck, you’re being saved.

I don’t mean it as saved as you are at risk, but saved as in being on hold purposely.

This mindset helps me so much when I start to feel those emotions because instead of defying my life in black-and-white terms, it is a reminder things could become better than what I imagine. I mean think about all the times certain things didn’t exist- certain jobs, certain tools, etc. and what if those innovators let themselves disengage simply because things were not looking the way they expected when really they were getting prepared?

When we're in a period of waiting or feeling stuck, it's easy to see it as a negative thing. But what if these moments are actually protecting us from rushing into situations we're not ready for? What if they give us time to develop the skills, wisdom, or resilience we'll need later?

Sometimes, what feels like being stuck is actually a period of preparation. The key is to use this time wisely - to learn, reflect, and build our foundation. While social media and society might make us feel like we're falling behind, these comparisons only serve to distract us from our unique path. What looks like being "stuck" might be keeping us from settling for less than what we're capable of achieving.

Instead of fighting against these periods of waiting, try to embrace the slow growth. Ask yourself: What can I learn from this time? What skills can I develop? What internal work can I do? Sometimes, the most significant growth happens during these seemingly static moments and gets us ready for faster-paced times.

What Inspired this Episode:

The discomfort of slow progress and how it affects our perception of personal growth, as explored through different perspectives on turbulent versus gradual development. This topic resonates with many who feel their journey isn't moving at the pace they expected. The journey of personal growth is unique to each individual, and sometimes what appears as stagnation is actually a period of deep internal transformation. By understanding and accepting this perspective, we can approach our development with more patience and self-compassion, recognizing that meaningful progress often happens beneath the surface.

Questions/Topics I wanted to explore:

  • How can we reframe the feeling of being "stuck" into something more positive?

  • What role does patience play in personal growth and development?

  • How do societal expectations influence our perception of progress?

  • Why do we often resist periods of slow growth?

  • What can we learn during these seemingly inactive periods?

  • How can we maintain motivation during periods of slow progress?

  • What's the difference between being stuck and being in a preparation phase?

  • How do cultural differences affect our perception of progress and success?

  • What role does self-compassion play in navigating periods of waiting?

  • How can we identify the difference between productive waiting and procrastination?

  • How to stay motivated when progress feels slow

  • Signs you're making progress even when it doesn't feel like it

  • Dealing with comparison anxiety in the age of social media

  • Ways to measure personal growth beyond traditional metrics

  • Mindfulness techniques for periods of waiting

  • Building resilience during challenging times

  • Setting realistic expectations for personal growth

  • Finding purpose in transitional periods

  • Overcoming fear of being "left behind" professionally

Episode Description:

In this week's episode, we are just having a light-hearted conversation about growth. We often worry about the timeline of our lives, whether we are falling behind or doing enough to be where we want to be. Whether you are a teenager, college student, or well into adulthood, sometimes need a reminder that being where you are is okay and there is no need to panic because of the way life works in cycles. Sometimes the growth happens so fast that we almost miss it and other times the pacing is slower to make sure we are absorbing what we need to in that moment.
